Marble Sky - Marble Sky MP3

Jeff Witscher has worked under many different names in his time producing ambient and electronic music, and while others may have been more popular (such as his psych-influenced electronic project Rene Hell), Marble Sky contains his prettiest and most straight-forward work. Initially very scarcely released on a handful of cassettes, this eponymous record is now getting a vinyl reissue. These tracks take the form of bright, hopeful drones filled out with tape hiss. ‘Marble Sky’ is Witscher attempting to beautify his ambient sound.

Since 2009, Vincent Koreman a.k.a. For his Permanent Vacation release he is perfecting his methods and style, which is equally influenced by Suicide, Sun Ra and Terrence Dixon. On remix duties for "Night Time Is the Right Time" is original chief rocker and Omar S protégé OB Ignitt.

John Luther Adams performed by Seattle Symphony Orchestra under Ludovic Morlot - Become Ocean MP3 / FLAC

Awarded the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Music and described by the New Yorker's Alex Ross as "...the loveliest apocalypse in musical history," John Luther Adams' majestic orchestral work Become Ocean is a thrilling exploration of depth, turbulence, eerie silence and ultimately enveloping calm. Performed by the Seattle Symphony under the baton of Ludovic Morlot, the music casts an expressive arc that's by turns intimate and expansive - an ebbing and flowing sonic journey that finds the composer testing the very limits of his imagination.

Von Spar - Streetlife (2014)

Von Spar - Streetlife MP3

**Köln-based pop charms return with a typically slick sound nodding to Laid Back and their home-city's dual Krautrock and ambient pop heritage** "Precarious bon vivants, gifted musicians, radical guys – VON SPAR are many things, but above all, they are one of the most amazing bands in the realms that the British music press once baptized as Krautrock. Sebastian Blume, Jan Philipp Janzen, Christopher Marquez and Phillip Tielsch have in past been praised even more than the revenants of the genre (in 2012, together with Stephen Malkmus, before the watering eyes of CAN founding members Irmin Schmidt and Jaki Liebezeit, they provided a reinterpretation of the album "Ege Bamyasi" at the Cologne Weekend Festival) – even if the four were inspired equally by techno, synthpop, noise, post-punk and new music. And once again, much is new on "Streetlife". Four of the eight pieces were recorded with the Canadian singer Chris Cummings, aka Marker Starling (formerly Mantler), whose fragile voice at moments recalls that of the great communist and musician Robert Wyatt. Other pieces feature the voice of Ada (Pampa Records) and of Scout Niblett (Drag City), for whom Jan Philipp Janzen has played drums on various tours (as he has for the likes of Owen Pallett and The Field). "Streetlife" has emerged as a heterogeneous album ranging from melodic piano disco ("Chain Of Command"), to tripped out soundscapes ("Hearts Fear"), to grandiose soft rock ("Try Though We Might"). One might call it music for a better world, if that didn't sound so lofty. Yet VON SPAR are not at all lofty, they are wide awake. This is not escapism, but life in the streets. And that's how they live it."

Machinone - Tokyo (2014)

Machinone - Tokyo MP3 / FLAC

Once again, flau has become home for another exciting new artist. Machinone, the multi-instrumentalist who hails from Tohoku, Japan, with his gorgeous debut album “Tokyo”, joined the ever expanding artist roster of flau. 6 years ago, machinone (Daizo Kato) from Tohoku, moved to the west side of Tokyo, and opened a new chapter of his life. During these 6 years, he has been drawn to the fascinating surroundings of the town he stayed – a wonderful mix of modernization from the current time and nostalgic vestiges of the urban past. And thus, his debut album “Tokyo” was born – a collection of machinone’s delicate sketches of the town. Using prepared guitar, with bow and bell, banjo, clarinet, stepping organ, wood toys, tape recorder, small piano, and various other musical instruments, mechinone gently outlined his various impressions of Tokyo. Soft finger-picking guitar playing, melodies with a sense of nostalgic, warm tape noise touches, ensemble of lush acoustic instruments, field recordings and ambient sounds that came from outside of his bedroom, encapsulate his sounds in a very unique way. This delicate debut album from machinone also made perfect by guest musicians like Takashi Tsuda (Radiosonde), Danny Norbury, Federico Durand, and elegantly mastered by Naph, who all together gave the album wonderful doses of beauty and exquisiteness.

With their LP Ghost Systems Rave, 12"s on Fifth Wall and Soma, and their latest Tannhauser Acid Works EP, they've reached beyond the warehouse and into the wild apocalyptic rubble of po-mo UK hardcore. Their lead track Blood Skating is an industrial blitz of terror-beats, laced with a haunting, Aphex-grade vocal pad. It sets the tone for this incredible release, which they've A&R'd out of thin air, apparently from their mates in Dundee, Perth, and the surrounding mud-lands.

VA / Prins Thomas - Rainbow Disco Club Vol. 1 MP3 / FLAC

Prins Thomas' first commercially available DJ mix, 2007's Cosmic Galactic Prism, was something of a masterclass in dancefloor-friendly eclecticism, effortlessly joining the dots between a myriad of sounds and styles whilst retaining a decidedly intergalactic feel. Pleasingly, Rainbow Disco Club Volume 1 - released in celebration of the annual Tokyo festival of the same name - is similarly inspirational. Featuring some 26 tracks crammed onto one disc, it impressively joins the dots between the demented space disco of DJ Fett Burger and Speckgurtel, the fuzzy house intensity of Theo Parrish's rework of Helium Robots, the spiralling loop techno of Surgeon (here remixing Bee Mask), and the sweaty, bass-driven broken house brilliance of General Ludd. And that's just for starters.

Deadbeat & Paul St. Hilaire - The Infinity Dub Sessions (2014)

Deadbeat & Paul St. Hilaire - The Infinity Dub Sessions MP3 / FLAC

**Paul St. Hilaire aka Tikiman provides the naturally perfect accompaniment to Deadbeat's dry, heavy techno dubs** "Deadbeat. Tikiman. Infinity. Dub. A quadrangle of such obvious statement and perfect musical inference may very well never have been uttered for those of the wholly weeded out persuasion. Indeed, when the great book of Dub music is written the names Scott Monteith and Paul St Hilaire will undoubtedly figure highly in its chapters devoted to recent years. Monteith, the last great prodigal son of the doctrine handed down from the Blue Mount of Lord Scratch and King Tubby, St Hilaire the undisputed voice of a generation, those fanatical warrior monks, followers of the most Holy House of Ernestus and Von Oswald incarnate. Having developed a fast friendship from their very first meeting in Montreal at the premier Micro Mutek event a decade ago, Deadbeat and Tikiman's occasional collaborative performances have since blown the minds of audiences from Berlin to Tokyo and many points in between. No great surprise then that their first album length venture is a Tour de Force of Dub music of the highest order. Nearly a year in the making, the genetic code of Deadbeat's Infinity Dubs series gets shot through with a Dreader than Dread Kingstonian logic, hi hats dropping back from the three to the one, Tikiman at his most militant, poetic, fierce, and flowing. These are the recordings of two lions uncaged, and none who bare witness shall escape their fiery judgement. If music is truly eternal, here be two voices which shall echo in infinity with all the weight, reverence, and dire power unleashed with every tectonic bass hit, and every whimsical turn of phrase. And if these eight burnt offerings are any indication of what happens when these two sit down for a session of smoke and reasoning, here's hoping they choose to do it frequently. Dub without end. Ad Infinitum."

Over the course of 20 years, Levin released 7 full-length albums, a 3-way split and a collection of rare pre-debut demos plus numerous tracks on various compilations. His latest offering entitled "Thaw" compiles the latter and adds 3 tracks from the split "Lost Signals from Unknown Horizons". On the one hand, it is simply a collection of rare tracks, but, on the other, it may serve a purpose of a "best of" album. With the chronology unaltered, it gives you the full picture of the project and its progress. It is a history lesson of the last 20 years in sonic melancholia of Desiderii Marginis.

eMMplekz (Mordant Music + Ekoplekz) - You Might Also Like MP3

Baron Mordant and Ekoplekz's dangerously underrated eMMplekz project regroup to agitate and baffle on the 'You Might Also Like' addend to the 'Your Crate Has Changed' and 'IZOD Days' sessions. In it, the 'plekz furnishes an increasingly confident, ever-sardonic, and acutely incisive Baron with some of his leanest, driven riddims for a furrow-browed mooch around a Southern English bloke's outsider psyche. Expect sordid, name-dropping tales about an olde English tobacconist ('Name Blotter') and misanthropic rituals set to psychoactive dub in 'Stag Don't', next to unsettling kosmic dub ('Anglorum Saxonum'), and laments for Glastonbury ('Magical Mystery Megabahn'), plus the unsettling 'Bedrheum Raver', and the brilliantly scrambled syntax of 'Gargle Tronslate'.

Mourn - Mourn (2014)

Mourn - Mourn MP3 / FLAC

MOURN is a very young quartet formed from the friendship of Jazz Rodríguez Bueno and Carla Pérez Vas — both born in 1996 in El Maresme, Catalonia, Spain. The duo armed themselves with inspiration from PJ Harvey, Patti Smith, Sebadoh and Sleater Kinney and began writing material, which they quickly released, raw and acoustic, on their YouTube channel. These recordings caught the attention of their homeland’s Sones Records. Despite being teenagers, earlier this year they came out of the studio (along with even younger recruits – drummer Antonio Postius and bassist Leia Rodríguez) with a brilliant treatise of indie rock that has stunned those who have had the opportunity to listen to it. Jazz (18), Carla (18), Leia (15) and Antonio (18) came together to present these tracks with authenticity and self-awareness beyond their age. With the confidence only residing in youth, the Mourn debut was recorded live in the studio in two days, proof of which is in their live-in-the-studio videos for singles “Otitis” and “Your Brain is Made of Candy.” Both tracks perfectly capture the bands’ affinity for the brevity of The Ramones with the lyrical and melodic sophistication of The Pixies. The immediacy is apparent and the LP contains the “lightning in a bottle” quality that most bands work for years to catch. The band’s self-written motto states “Four nerds playing music and shit at the doors of hell.” Thankfully for us, this moment was documented and we have the self-titled debut to enjoy for years to come.

Tlaotlon / Střed Světa - Tlaotlon / Střed Světa (2014)

Tlaotlon / Střed Světa - Tlaotlon / Střed Světa MP3

New Zealand’s Tlaotlon crafts music that disorients and overwhelms, a maximalist soundtrack to today’s enveloping, pervasively networked culture. This split on Baba Vanga– with the Czech Republic-based, Wanda Group-like Střed Světa– finds him injecting his vapory polyrhythmic techno with a rush of tribalistic energy, a ritualistic induction of sensory overload. Opening track “Magnetic Perception” is a steadily mounting cacophony of fractured kaleidoscopic rhythms and Rene Hell-esque computer abstractions. Here– and throughout his half of the split– Tlaotlon evinces a great willingness to allow his music to drift into utter disarray. Conflicting moods and patterns converge and diverge into ecstatic dissonance, incongruous and yet united by an infectiously nihilistic glee.

Teho Teardo - Soundtrack Work 2004-2008 (2010)

Teho Teardo - Soundtrack Work 2004-2008 MP3

Having found fame and acclaim at Cannes with his prize-winning score for Il Divo (the Paolo Sorrentino biopic of former Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti), Teho Teardo is now poised among the elite of European cinema's up-and-coming composers. His music for that film (for which he was awarded both the Ennio Morricone Prize at the Italia Film Festival and the David di Nonatell Prize) is included on this catch-up retrospective disc, alongside soundtracks for cult thriler La Ragazza Del Lago (The Girl By The Lake), Il Passato E Una Terra Straniera (The Past Is A Foreign Land), L'Amico di Famiglia (Friend Of The Family) and 'Lavorare Con Lentezza' (Working Slowly). Key to Teardo's sound is his readiness to incorporate contemporary programmed electronics into his orchestral arrangements. This is something evident throughout the retrospective and harks back to Teardo's work as one half of Expanding Records' electronica duo, Modern Institute. There's a bold use of glitchy, abstract beat construction running through this material that perhaps to some extent recalls Olafur Arnalds' combination of sequenced electronics and strings on his earlier output; other familiar names like Max Richter are likely to spring to mind too, yet this material tends to be a little more experimental and more willing to stray beyond the confines of the established neo-classical idiom. Combining jittery, whirring percussion with guitars and languid string riffs, something like L'Amico di Famielia's 'Miss Agropontino' feels like a more progressive approach to film soundtracking, and rather than laying down a series of variations for each film, Teardo's approach remains flexible and willing to incorporate a broader variety of compositional directions. There are countless great moments strewn across this twenty-five track collection, with one particularly intriguing example being the use of extreme low-frequency electronic pulses in conjunction with conventional orchestration during Lavorare Con Lentezza's 'Con Molta Calma', prompting you to wonder how these almost subconscious components would interact with the film itself. Highly recommended.

Schlammpeitziger - What’s Fruit (2014)

Schlammpeitziger - What’s Fruit MP3

With his new album "What's Fruit", Schlammpeitziger touches the dancefloor more than ever before in his 22-year long career. Yet his dancefloor is a playful one. The Cologne based composer's sounds electrify with their multi-layered melodic structures. He weaves countless details in perfection, to a high density of musical activity, always focusing on the slow, driving beats which hold everything together. Each of the eight tracks represents shades of the unique humour we love about Schlammpeitziger: The tricky question about what's those things we call fruit, or his mantric German lyrics on "Schneid ein Stu¨ck aus der Zeit" are charming messages which never fail to be heard in the guise of those lovely synth hooks. This new Schlammpeitziger disco has its source in a situation which does not quite promise relaxed creativity: In the past year Schlammpeitziger's studio in Cologne has been surrounded by construction works. Locked up in his private space between massive hums, squealing saws and pulsating jackhammers, he delivers this indeed relaxed album with eight tracks. It comes across with the freshness of a debut work. Contrary to his previous records which had been mostly made with analogue synths, this album has been produced with iPad synths at 90%% of the time, before taking the mixes to Stefan Mohr's (ex- member of the band "Workshop") mixing console. ABOUT SCHLAMMPEITZIGER: It is the first time for Schlammpeitziger to release a record outside of his Cologne based home labels A-Musik and Sonig. This time the musician, drawer and charismatic performer appears on the Pingipung imprint from Hamburg. He had been in touch with the label for years and has also been a regular guest in the Golden Pudel Club. A lot has happened since Jo Zimmermann invented the Schlammpeitziger character in 1992. Artists like Depeche Mode, The Bionaut, Barbara Morgenstern or Egoexpress have asked for remixes and he has played countless international stages. His many albums and CDs have even been compiled to "Collected Simple Songs Of My Temporary Past" by the Domino label (UK), Thrill Jockey (US) and Tokuma (Japan).
